When you’re caring for an adopted child, fostering, or supporting a child as a special guardian, you may sometimes hear people say things like: “They were adopted as a baby, so they’ll be fine!” It’s natural to wonder how a child could have experienced trauma if they were removed from birth or very early on. We know this isn’t the whole story. This training session is designed to help you understand why early experiences still matter, and how they can affect children and young people as they grow.

What is our Pre-Verbal Trauma Webinar and Workshop?
This training session is led by two highly experienced clinicians from Gateway Psychology, who specialise in trauma and attachment. It has been carefully developed to help you understand how very early experiences — even before birth or in the first months of life — can affect a child’s brain and development. You’ll also learn more about how children and young people can be supported when they’ve had these kinds of early experiences.
The session takes place online via Zoom.
Who is it suitable for?
This training programme is designed for parents, carers, and special guardians who are looking after children and young people who may have experienced trauma. It aims to give you a better understanding of how early experiences can affect your child and how you can support them.

Terms and conditions
Spaces are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. The application form reserves a place on our list, and the payment confirms the place. We cannot confirm a place without payment, which must be received by the funding deadline. If we receive payment after the deadline, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to attend the course.
Please note that spaces are charged per person and not per household. Unregistered participants will be asked to leave the course. If we do not receive all payments by the deadline, we may cancel the course.
We may also cancel the course if we do not receive enough applications by the deadline. We require a minimum number of participants for the course to go ahead.
If you choose not to attend after payment is made and the funding deadline has passed, this is classed as a late-notice cancellation and we will not be able to offer a refund.
