How small moments of care and reflection help our team stay connected, and strengthen the support we offer to families
At Gateway Psychology, connection is at the centre of everything we do – not only in our work with families, but in how we work together as a team. Just like the families we support, we know that connection takes time, attention and care.
Connection through small moments
Our team connection is built through small, consistent gestures that help us feel part of something shared.
When it’s a team member’s birthday, their desk is decorated with fairy lights and a card from the team. There are always communal snacks to dip into and a shelf of interesting teas to try. We even have a guinea pig tea chart, which helps everyone explain their preferred tea strength (and often sparks good-natured debate about how tea should look).
These small, light-hearted traditions help create a sense of belonging. They remind us to slow down, notice one another and take a moment of connection in the middle of a busy day.
Creating space to think and reflect
Connection in our team also happens through regular structure and shared reflection.
We meet often to plan, problem-solve and support each other in our work. Our monthly reflective space is a protected time where we pause and think together about the work we do – what we’ve learned, what’s been challenging and what has gone well. This space helps us stay grounded, thoughtful and consistent in how we support families.
“We dedicate time to building strong relationships – both professionally and personally – because we know that meaningful connection fuels collaboration, resilience, and wellbeing. Whether it’s a quick kitchen catch-up over tea and biscuits, a lunchtime walk, or a thoughtful conversation between meetings, these moments matter.”

Connection through shared experiences
We also make time to connect outside of day-to-day work. Later this month, we’ll be gathering for a pumpkin painting team event 🎃 – a relaxed way to unwind and enjoy something creative together. These kinds of moments help us maintain a sense of balance, joy and togetherness, even during busy times.
Why team connection matters
When we feel connected as colleagues, it naturally shapes how we support the families we work with. The same empathy, curiosity and respect that we bring to one another are reflected in the care we offer in the therapy room. A connected team is better able to listen, stay attuned and respond thoughtfully – qualities that sit at the heart of therapeutic work.
“We also come together for team celebrations, creative afternoons, and deeper chats when needed – because in our line of work, support and camaraderie make all the difference. If there’s a team that can turn a meeting into a party, it’s us! The people you meet and the connections you build truly shape your experience – and at Gateway, we make sure those connections count.”
– Meagan, Business Support Assistant
Connection is something we continue to build every day. It’s present in the way we communicate, reflect and celebrate together. These moments, both big and small, remind us that supporting one another is the foundation of supporting families. 🌿
