National Adoption Week 2025 at Gateway Psychology

At Gateway Psychology, connection is central to everything we do. It shapes how we work with families, how we support one another as a team, and how we collaborate with professionals across the adoption network. This National Adoption Week, our theme is Building Connection Together, because we believe that connection is what allows real understanding, trust, and change to take place.

Connection in the therapy room

In therapy, connection is the foundation for everything that follows. Before any strategies or interventions can make a difference, children and parents need to feel safe enough to share, explore, and reflect together.

A key focus for our psychologists and therapists is creating that sense of safety and understanding, to help families rebuild trust and strengthen relationships. It’s in those moments of connection that families begin to make sense of experiences and emotions, and start to find new ways forward together.

Connection outside the therapy room

Connection also starts long before a therapy session begins. From the first email or phone call, our admin team helps families feel welcomed and supported. A calm, friendly interaction can make all the difference when someone is taking that first step toward getting help.

Within Gateway Psychology, we place the same value on connection in our own team. We meet regularly to reflect, learn, and support one another, ensuring that we bring the same empathy and attunement to our colleagues as we do to our clients. This internal culture of connection helps us maintain a thoughtful, consistent approach across the whole service.

Working in connection with others

Our work doesn’t happen in isolation. We regularly collaborate with social workers, schools, local authorities, and other professionals who play a vital role in supporting adopted children and their families. When services stay connected and share understanding, families experience joined-up care that feels more cohesive and less overwhelming.

Connection in decisions and systems

Connection also matters at a wider level. Policies and funding decisions shape what kind of support families can access, and how consistent that support can be. When those decisions are made in connection – through dialogue with families, clinicians, and professionals on the ground – they are more likely to meet real needs and make a lasting difference.

Building connection together

Connection isn’t a single event. It’s something that’s built, held, and strengthened over time. Whether in therapy, within our team, or across the adoption community, we see every day how connection helps people feel safe, supported, and understood.

This National Adoption Week, we’re celebrating all the ways connection shows up in our work – and the many people who help to build it with us. 🌿
