Description

Adolescence, Attachment and Building Connection (A-ABC) is an interactive eight-session therapeutic parenting programme for parents and carers of teenagers and young people who have experienced early trauma, attachment disruption or relational difficulties.

The course explores how trauma and attachment experiences can affect adolescent brain development, emotional regulation, identity, behaviour and relationships. Drawing on attachment theory, developmental neuroscience and therapeutic parenting approaches, the programme aims to help parents and carers better understand the young people they support, whilst developing practical, relational strategies to strengthen connection, improve communication and reduce conflict.

Sessions combine psychoeducation, reflective discussion, practical exercises, video materials and opportunities to connect with other parents and carers facing similar challenges. The programme is delivered live online by highly qualified clinical psychologists and therapists with extensive experience supporting trauma and attachment needs.

Topics covered include:

  • Attachment theory in adolescence
  • Adolescent brain development and neurobiology
  • Emotional regulation and co-regulation
  • Identity, belonging and relationships
  • Therapeutic and relational approaches to discipline
  • Repairing and strengthening relationships
  • Building empathy, connection and understanding

The course aims to provide a supportive, reflective space where parents and carers can feel understood, develop confidence and build practical strategies to support their young person and family relationships.

Prerequisites

No formal prerequisites are required. This course is suitable for adoptive parents, foster carers, kinship carers and special guardians supporting adolescents and young people who have experienced trauma, attachment disruption or relational difficulties. Participants should be willing to engage in reflective discussions and attend all sessions where possible, as each session builds upon previous learning.
