This advanced one-day training explores how trauma experienced before a child develops language can continue to impact emotional regulation, relationships, behaviour and development throughout later life. Designed for professionals working with children and families, the course combines neuroscience, attachment theory and practical application to deepen understanding of early adversity and trauma-informed support.

Description
Children who experience trauma in infancy or early childhood may carry the impact long after the events themselves - even when those experiences occurred before they had words to describe them.
Professionals working with adopted children, children in care, fostered children, or children who have experienced early adversity are often faced with questions such as:
- “How can trauma affect a child if they were removed very young?”
- “Surely they won’t remember what happened?”
- “Why are these behaviours still happening years later?”
This advanced training explores how early relational trauma and adversity can shape brain development, emotional regulation, sensory processing, relationships and behaviour across childhood and beyond.
Drawing upon attachment theory, developmental neuroscience and clinical practice experience, the course aims to deepen understanding of how preverbal trauma presents in everyday settings and how professionals can respond in a more trauma-informed, compassionate and effective way.
The training is interactive and reflective throughout, using exercises, discussions, video clips and practical examples to support learning and application.
Topics include:
- Preverbal trauma and brain development
- The impact of trauma on the developing brain
- Attachment, stress responses and regulation
- Practical applications and support strategies
- Reflective discussions and case examples
- Q&A session
Training is delivered by a highly qualified Clinical Psychologist and/or Therapist with extensive experience working with trauma, attachment and neurodevelopmental needs.
