Gateway Psychology is an independent psychology service for children, young people and families. We are based in Stoke-on-Trent, with a purpose-built clinic facility in Tunstall. We are rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted for our work with adopted children and families.

We’re excited to announce that our clinical team is growing. As such, we are recruiting for a newly qualified Clinical Psychologist with a passion for working with children and young people. About Gateway

Job type: Full-time (a part-time position could be available on negotiation).
Working pattern: 37.5 hours per week, typically from 9am-5pm on Monday to Friday. Some after-hours work will be required. Flexibility in after-hours work will be a required component.
Salary: £40 000 – £45 000 (pro-rata if part-time). Negotiable depending on experience.
Band: NHS AfC Band 7 equivalent (although we do not band roles here at Gateway Psychology). We would hope to facilitate progression to an equivalent to a Band 8a subject to performance reviews. Specialist training would also be offered.
Specialism: Children, young people and families.
Reporting to: Clinical Director or designate.
Location: Gateway Psychology, 7-9 The Boulevard, Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, ST6 6BD. Some travel will be required depending on client and business requirements.

Overall role

  • Assesses & treats own caseload of clients & maintains associated records.
  • Provides, develops and manages highly specialist interventions.
  • Develops and delivers training, on-line webinars and e-Learning materials, both online and face-to-face.
  • Clinically supervises less experienced psychologists, assistant(s), trainee(s).
  • Coordinates provision of specialist service; provides specialist advice to other professions and carers.
  • Assists in the overall day-to-day running and management of the company under the guidance of the Clinical Director.

Qualifications required:

Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, meeting requirements for HCPC registration (mandatory).

Professional registrations required: Eligibility for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is mandatory. Registration with the British Psychological Society (BPS) is beneficial.

Banding:

While Gateway Psychology does not band jobs, the Clinical Psychologist position we have available is equivalent to NHS AfC Band 7 role, depending on experience.

Experience and interests:

An interest and experience with working with children, families and young people would be regarded as essential; any interest and/or experience in looked-after or adopted children and early trauma and attachment disorders in children would be desirable. We would anticipate providing a successful candidate with specialist training in early-trauma therapy techniques such as DDP and Theraplay ®.

Specialist assessment and psychometric tests relating to children with early trauma will also be taught. The incumbent will hold a caseload involving children, adolescents and families, particularly in Adoptive and Looked-After situations.
